The Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) provides management and oversight of individual cases of allegations of abuse made against those who work with children. Their role is to give advice and guidance to employers and voluntary organisations; liaise with the Police and other agencies, and monitor the progress of cases to ensure that they are dealt with as quickly as possible consistent with a thorough and fair process. This training aims to advise those employing adults to work with children in a paid or unpaid capacity, of their duties in respect of dealing with child protection allegations against staff or volunteers

  Aim:

This training session covers Allegations Management, the role of the LADO and Safer Working practices. It will cover the role of the Local Authority Designated Officer, Allegations Management Guidance, how to deal with an allegation, the process after an allegation has been made and the Disclosure & Barring Service. The training has been adapted to provide managers, (responsible for child care provisions), with advice and guidance to all staff who work with children to protect children within their establishment, staff and their organisation. The training will provide managers with strategies to put in place to avoid allegations being made due to unsafe practices.

  Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course participants will have:

  • Gained an understanding of national and local guidance in relation to managing allegations
  • Considered the employers role and responsibilities and be clear about what to do if an allegation or concern is received about a member of staff or volunteer
  • Understood the role of the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO)
  • Explored how the three processes of social care enquiries, police criminal process, and the employers’ responsibilities work together
